This was our first visit to India. With the help of a small corps of guides, drivers, and agents, the two of us toured much of the subcontinent from January 27 through February 21, 2007. We got to within 100 miles of the Chinese boarder to the North, almost to the continent’s southern tip, and saw the oceans on both sides. We used many different modes of transportation: airplane, train, SUV, houseboat, rickshaw, elephant, etc. We visited many major cities and passed through innumerable small villages while driving 1000 miles of the country’s often challenging roadways. We met wonderfully friendly people – eye contact with a stranger invariably produced a smile; ate deliciously spiced food; enjoyed extraordinary cultural diversity – there are 21 official languages; and were enthralled by architectural wonders, such as the Taj Mahal, and natural wonders and wildlife found in three national parks. While logistically daunting, everything went smoothly in country, thanks to superb organizing by Sunil Trehan and his staff at Easy Tours of India.
